How to rotate connected payment service providers

Connect multiple Stripe, PayPal, etc., accounts to the same Checkify Plus account. Set the rules. Rotate the accounts to minimize the chance of holds, blocks or limitations, maximizing business efficiency.

Multi-account connection and rotation of payment gateways is a strategic way to disperse highly-concentrated transaction volume across multiple accounts, reducing the risk of hitting limits or experiencing issues with a connected payment processor. This is a proven tactic for large and enterprise-level merchants.

By using payment rotation, Checkify Plus customers can set rules to alternate between multiple Stripe, PayPal and other connected accounts they use for accepting payments from their buyers. This guarantees a balanced distribution of transactions, prevents any single payment account from being overloaded, and optimizes the management of transactions and sales in different countries and currencies.

As the accounts grow and build positive history, the chances of restrictions reduce. Therefore, for high-volume sellers, it is important to ensure harmony and balance as they progress.

1. Getting started with connecting of multiple accounts

The multi-account connection is available instantly, even one connected payment method is enough. Visit admin > Payment methods to get started.

Checkify Plus supports connecting of ten or even more independent accounts, covering Stripe, PayPal, and other supported payment systems, with no hard limit.

Our platform provides original path refund mechanism: cancellations and refund requests will be sent to the correct payment methods (sub-accounts). With PayPal, tracking numbers will be automatically updated to the methods that received the order's payment. Precise shipping / fulfillment information is important to PayPal for releasing the funds.

Every account may have custom names and its connection is secure and no-code. The API parameters are auto-validated, ensuring correct configuration and statuses at all time.

Once merchants add multiple payment gateways and sub-accounts to Checkify Plus, they can view account statuses and manage them directly in the admin dashboard.

It is possible to enable or disable accounts individually, or disable all accounts of the same PSP at once, by pressing the appropriate "Emergency disable all" button.

Payment methods of the same type will be used at the checkout depending on their status (primary or non-primary), while it is still possible to combine several different PSPs on the same one-page checkout, e.g. Stripe + PayPal.

2. Setting up the rules

You can configure countries and currencies for each of your connected accounts. This helps separate sales, and makes management, reporting and analytics easier. Example: one account for US sales only, and another for the rest of the world.

Different PSPs work with a different set of currencies. It is up to a merchant to maintain consistency in presentment currencies. PSPs update their set from time to time, so the most actual information can be found on their websites. Example for PayPal. Example for Stripe supported currencies.

Different PSPs work with different sets of currencies. It is up to you to maintain consistency in your presentment currencies for checkouts. Otherwise, a payment method may not be available, or the checkout flow may not work as expected. PSPs update their lists from time to time, so the most up-to-date information can be found on their websites. See these examples for PayPal and Stripe's supported currencies.

A connected payment processing account can have either a Primary or Non-Primary status. All funds will be routed and processed via the Primary account. Currently, a manual action is required to switch between them.

Visit admin > Orders to view the transactions.

Transactions can be exported to a CSV file from this section. You can then work with this file outside Checkify, filtering by 'Account' to easily handle your analytics and reconciliation.

Alternatively, you can apply filters directly in the admin and monitor sales for each account from the Checkify dashboard.

3. Resolving common issues

🙀 What are the costs associated with using payment gateway rotation?

The costs are minimal, while the effect can be massive for a large-scale business. Multi-account connection and payment gateway rotation is available on any Checkify Plus subscription plan. The system is entirely plug-and-play, so tech knowledge or large teams are required to build or to maintain this setup. Merchants continue paying their fees to the PSPs depending on their terms and contracts with them.

🙀 Is using multiple Stripe or PayPal accounts compliant with their terms and conditions?

Multi-account architecture is a standard enterprise-grade risk management practice used by large corporations worldwide, and the PSPs are aware of it. Checkify Plus helps distributing the payment volume across distinct corporate entities, regional accounts, or product lines. As long as businesses remain complies with Stripe, PayPal, etc., standard acceptable use policies, managing processed transactions that way is entirely legitimate.

🙀 Will using multiple accounts affect the customer experience or billing descriptors?

The buyer-facing checkout experience remains completely invisible and smooth. On the backend, each connected payment processing account maintains its own distinct bank statement descriptor and internal tracking. This makes managing entirely separate brands or diverse product lines under one checkout ecosystem incredibly easy.
